Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in Laurel, MT. We are looking for a Technical Craftsman responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of new or existing refinery electrical equipment and instrumentation. You must be a mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to safety, quality, accuracy, and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks, are essential. 

Compensation Data

$53.04 per hour 

This is a Union Role. Wages are based on the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, calibrate and troubleshoot process and emissions analyzers throughout the refinery
  • Perform in-service maintenance, repair, and calibration of level, pressure, and flow transmitters, control valves, pressure regulators, motor-operated valves, all electronic monitoring and measuring devices, tank gauging systems, and distributed control system.
  • Remove from service and perform maintenance, repair, and calibration of level, pressure, and flow transmitters, control valves, pressure regulators, motor-operated valves, all electronic monitoring and measuring devices, tank gauging systems, distributed control system.
  • Remove from service and perform maintenance and repair of electrical distribution system equipment, transformers, motor starters, switches, motors, and all other refinery electrical equipment with voltages from 24 volts to 12.5 KV.
  • Install or remove electrical conduit and wiring.
  • Perform all required general duties and functions under call-out situations during off hours.
  • Perform all necessary emergency duties as related to fires, explosions, vapor releases, product spills, power failures, operational upsets, etc.
  • Attend required CHS-selected schools and or seminars to remain proficient in the profession.
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.  Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • 3 years of practical experience related to the electrical or instrumentation field, which may include experience in the following:
    • Installation or maintenance of power distribution systems,
    • Motor control and protection systems and lighting, calibration, and configuration
    • Maintenance of electronic and pneumatic process transmitters, process analyzers, and distributed control systems.
    • Installation or maintenance of Continuous Emissions Analyzers and Sample Systems.

Additional Qualifications

  • Computer experience with Windows-based programs preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Climb ladders and/or stairways and perform duties to heights of up to 300 feet.
  • Perform work in confined areas/spaces.
  • Perform work while wearing Self Contained Breathing Air apparatus.
  • Open and close valves on piping.
