Summary

CHS, Inc. has an exciting opportunity in our Global Grain Marketing team! CHS is looking for a Senior Commodity Trader to join our Ethanol Product Line team. In this role, you must be able to work across the enterprise and with a diverse group of people and customers. This role requires collaborative decision making while utilizing details, facts and data to make informed decisions. Strong communication skills, the ability to build relationships, and attention to detail are a must in this position.

This position is located at our Inver Grove Heights, MN office and will work an in person schedule. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear direction regarding department and functional goals
  • Make decisions and work independently as well as positively creating and contributing to a team environment
  • Form and execute Marketing planning strategies for positioning, buying and selling of ethanol for CHS owned and marketed ethanol plants
  • Provide exceptional customer service:
    • Maintain and manage a database of customer accounts and purchase patterns. Develop new markets, sales strategies and respective clients based upon self-asserted analytical market research and development
    • Primary point of contact for customers, both on supply and demand side
    • Negotiate Long Term, as well as Spot product sales with major oil firms domestically and internationally; one individual contract value may range up to potentially $50MM. Present the dynamics of current market negotiations to plant management to establish sales strategies 
  • Resolve issues and disputes with accounting, transportation, shippers and buyers/ end users
  • Identify, develop and build new trading opportunities via transloads and cooperatively managed facilities
  • Develop the staff through the sharing of knowledge & ideas and providing clear direction of goals
  • Manage supply chains in the region by participating in best-use scenarios for rail equipment and truck commitments 
  • Perform market analysis and formulation of corresponding commodity position strategy
  • Monitor the macro-trends of financial (especially oil and equity) markets and the global economy that can impact the respective commodity prices in the short, medium and long term
  • Communicate bid changes and closing bids to customers
  • Create additional CHS revenue via the management of ethanol swaps, RIN accumulation and carbon credit trading
  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 4+ years of experience in Trading, Procurement and/or Commodities

Additional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics, or related field 
  • 8 plus years of merchandising experience 
  • In depth understanding of commodity markets and trading 
  • Excellent analytical and decision making skills
  • Ability to adapt to fast changing environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • Experience managing P&L

Physical Requirements

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
