Summary
As a Barge Logistics Specialist at CHS, you play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless and efficient transportation of agricultural products via barge. Your expertise in logistics and supply chain management enables you to coordinate and optimize barge schedules, ensuring timely deliveries and minimizing costs. You work closely with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies to navigate the complexities of river transport, maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. Your proactive problem-solving skills and attention to detail contribute to the overall success of CHS's logistics operations, supporting the company's mission to connect farmers with global markets.
Responsibilities
- Working independently, execute barge shipments through end-user customers; coordinate day-today logistics activities, expedite the transportation of products, trouble-shooting as needed for CHS barge logistics program.
- Manage and schedule barge placements and shipments of materials/products through collaboration with plants, purchasing/sales, carriers, and logistic companies to ensure timely deliveries to our customers.
- Receive in and apply out loaded barges to internal and external customers against contracts, by providing documentation and destinations
- Perform daily barge position tracking by coordinating with carriers, and send position reports to all the stakeholders
- Monitor and analyze costs, managing freight-related invoices and expenditures and planning for growth.
- Develop and maintain strategic carrier relationships aiding in effective management of logistical costs.
- Act as the communication liaison between client plants, terminal storage facilities, internal sales/marketing, and customers to efficiently and economically meet product sales/delivery execution goals.
- Monitor the performance of product sales and perform the physical movements from respective plant location to product destinations.
- Maintain appropriate records and prepares reports.
- Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (required)
- High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience in Supply Chain and Procurement and/or Transportation and Logistics
Additional Qualifications
- Able to work a hybrid schedule- 3 days/week in the office
- Proficient in MS Office suite
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- In-depth understanding of standard shipping practices, trucking, rail and container
- Experience working with logistics tools
- Bachelor's degree preferred in Business, Economics, Manufacturing, Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Statistics or related field

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
