Summary

The Control Room Supervisor oversees all control room operations at the Myrtle Grove, LA grain export elevator, ensuring the efficient, safe, and compliant movement of grain throughout the facility. This role plays a key part in driving operational productivity, optimizing equipment utilization, and minimizing downtime. The Control Room Supervisor leads a team of operators and serves as the central point of communication for all terminal operations during their shift, with a strong focus on achieving throughput goals and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Control Room Operations

  • Monitor and control all equipment used in receiving, storing, blending, and loading grain.
  • Maintain situational awareness of equipment status, grain movement, and safety conditions.
  • Manage alarms, troubleshoot process issues, and escalate as needed.

Supervision & Coordination

  • Supervise control room operators and assign tasks based on operational needs.
  • Ensure shift handovers are completed accurately and effectively.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, logistics, and quality assurance personnel.

Grain Handling Oversight

  • Ensure correct binning, blending, and shipping of grain as per customer specifications.
  • Monitor grain temperature, moisture, and infestation control systems.
  • Ensure integrity of inventory records and accurate tracking of grain movements

Compliance & Safety

  • Enforce company safety procedures and monitor real-time safety systems.
  • Ensure compliance with USDA, FGIS, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
  • Respond to emergency situations and report incidents according to policy.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain logs of equipment status, grain movements, and operational events.
  • Generate shift reports and assist with KPI tracking.
  • Report and document all deviations from standard procedures.

Productivity & Optimization

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improved grain flow.
  • Proactively adjust system routing and blending plans to maximize daily throughput.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics/Operations Managers to implement process improvements that enhance loading/unloading efficiency.
  • Analyze downtime and operational delays to develop corrective actions and reduce recurrence.

Team Performance

  • Lead shift meetings focused on production targets and shift goals.
  • Coach control room operators to enhance decision-making and real-time troubleshooting.
  • Encourage a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in operations management within agricultural, industrial, or logistics environments 

Additional Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of control systems (PLC/SCADA) and grain handling equipment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Working understanding of refinery assets, production line and capability
  • Demonstrated ability to influence people within and across organizational lines
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills in communicating to supervised employees as well as cross-functional team-members.
  • Demonstrated ability and skill to analyze, interpret and use data to make timely and effective decisions
  • Demonstrated effective use of computers for communication and data analysis
  • Knowledge of products, product quality factors, and equipment capabilities
  • Ability to work in rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must possess a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
  • Pre-employment screening is based on the job requirements and industry guidelines and may or may not be required for the position. Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, and work in a control room or industrial setting.
  • Tolerance for dusty environments and temperature variations.

CHS offers a competitive total rewards package. Compensation includes base wage and, depending upon position, may include other earnings such as bonus, incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications, minimum wage/salary requirements under local law.
